#156433 RvB Ceases Formal Operations

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 29 October 2015 - 11:51 AM

For me, RvB was always a finest example of "sandbox gaming" mentality. You know, sov holders in null-sec, faction warfare combatants, mission runners, industrials, even miners - they all have goals and incentives included into core Eve game mechanics. To put it short, a lot of the capsuleers in Eve play the gameplay CCP made for them.

And just like wormhole dwellers invented their own "emergent gameplay", bent the rules, and did what was not intended by CCP, RvB did similar thing. RvB created "sandbox within sandbox" game, with its own rules, its own restrictions, its own incentives. Basically, RvB can be loosely considered as a separate game within the realm of Eve Online.

And that exact fact is what fascinated me during the years I spent in RvB.

If it's truly an end (although, it might be just a temporary leadership/membership crisis, who knows), then all I can say is "It was the happiest part of my Eve Online time! and, by the way, Thanks for All the Fish!!!"

#154587 Jita Jubilee (Dessy FFA) - 2015.09.06 @ 19:00

And I would suggest to take clean clone for this event.

Sometimes, ppl rage about us doing PvP in Jita (how dare we to affect their sandbox!) and do some stupid stuff, like smartbombing BS warped directly into the ball of FFA.

#154547 RvB Madhouse - 0:00 UTC 29/8 - 11:00 UTC 31/8

I think Laughing meant that when there is a Caracal-meta weekend, the only way to deal with it without fielding your own Caracal is some kind of T2/faction/pirate frig (which were forbidden). "dessy down" restriction would eliminate Caracals.

At the same time, dessy weekend with T2/pirate hulls - would be "fly garmur, dram, worm, or gtfo". With T2/faction - "slicers vs firetails vs average joe". I totally understand that there are a bunch of uber-pilots around who can dismantle garmur or slicer with their own atron or slasher. But for the vast majority of population here it's way above our piloting/pvp skills. And while it is so, mixed T1/T2/faction/pirate (cross non-applicable) themes of the same hull - is basically tears of impotence for the average crowd.

#153936 Flames to dust, lovers to friends...

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 12 August 2015 - 10:00 PM

Sometimes things go not as planned... If I'm ever going to write my own book, I'll put this phrase as a beginning for sure.

The point is, when you meet someone in your life, somewhere deep deep inside you already know everything. Whether this boy/girl is going to be good for you, whether he/she will break your heart, will you have some priceless moments together or it's just going to be a filler between more important parts of your life. Yes, your deep "inner I" tells you everything right from the beginning. Sometimes we just don't want to hear that wise little bugger, cause he tells straight-forward truth which is too much for us.

So, I can't tell that it was one of those "love from the first sight". Actually, I believe that such feelings usually means "we have a sexual chemistry between us" which ends up pretty quick. So, when I first saw her, I thought something different. Don't remember exactly. What I do remember is that she pinned up my attention and my mind like those youngsters pin up butterflies. Poor bug still moves, but can't get away. Fast forward 2 years and we've got our "just married" badge on a car. I'd say that it was one of the happiest days in my life, and the truth is - it was one of the most stressful ones too. Doesn't matter and I'd do it again 10/10.

That was almost exactly 9 years ago.

Funny thing, people are easily "get used" to a good things. You get a good job and just a few months later you can't even imagine how this can be different. You buy some nice comfortable car and you are crazy about it for a few days only. After that it simply feels "just right", nothing to be excited. And it's the same about relationships. Especially if they are nice and emotionally deep. We tend to forget that our beloved are human beings actually. That they have their own agenda, and their own feelings, and that there is no guarantee in any form that this relationship is going to last forever. We start making small mistakes - I was a bit lazy here, you didn't do that, I was not in the mood to spend this evening together and starred to a screen until 4am.

And this is perfectly fine, because we are all human beings after all. We can't be 100% perfect all the time. The sad thing, later we might have a chance to review what we did and blame ourselves for all those "small mistakes" that led to a big disaster.

Those were wonderful 9 years.

Usually, kids help. Help to glue the relationship, sometimes even add second life to a semi-broken thing called "marriage". Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to prove it. Medical conditions, you know. We tried almost everything. At some point we were seriously thinking about adoption, but I really believe that adoption should be allowed to the ones who already have their own children. Cause, for the first time, you'll screw up no matter how hard you try. Dunno, may be I'm wrong. May be we couldn't accept the fact that there will be no "our very own" lil one. Anyway, it was that "road not taken" thing.

Funny thing #2, there are no "Leaving Heaven" and "Hell welcomes you" signs on the road. Or may be we missed it arguing with each other. Things just went wrong gradually. In the beginning, your heart goes boom when you have a date in the evening. 10 years later, you leave your workplace, drive home and your heart goes boom again. Because you know that it's going to be another "boxing day" there. No, we didn't fight. We didn't even yell at each other. We tried to communicate. Discuss all the things. Find a common ground. When we found ourselves in the middle of the "hell", again, we tried almost everything. Travel, hobbies, tango, watching movies, doing the things we loved to do together. But it seems it was too little too late.

You still feel that you can live for her and die for her at any given day. But you are just too tired to prove it again and again that you are "Her Prince". And she is too tired to prove it again and again that she is "The Princess". All fairy tales end up right at the point when all actual fun begins.

I don't have any recipe how to avoid that. I know from my own experience that no matter how hard you try, it might already be beyond the point of recovery. Or, may be it's just natural and any relationship has its own lifetime. I don't have a PhD in "marriage crisis management" and I don't feel like I'm ever be. What I know for sure - you should not think that what you have now will last forever. There might be reasons why everything ends up in flames and dust. Or you might screw it up yourselves. Just don't assume that it's endless. Because there are good chances that it's not.

The only thing you can do - remember this and make sure that you don't waste this time. Yeah, get whatever you can while you have it. Share those moments, experience your "ideal day(s)", have fun, make up huge plans and put them into live. Just _live_ your days together and don't wait until "more appropriate moment".

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness". Indeed, those were wonderful 9 years.

#148598 RvB Fitted Ships Program v2

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 12 April 2015 - 12:36 PM

And a bit more awesomeness to our Prefit website!

Now, if you navigate the site from within Eve client, there is a new "open in-game" button at the top of loadout. Click it and the fit will be opened within the game!

So, you can check whether you have all necessary skills to use the mods in the fit, review detailed modules information etc.

Handy, right? ;)

#148530 DEATH DISCO - FFA Executioner Carousel, Apr 17th

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 10 April 2015 - 10:07 PM

Greetings Internet Spaceship Warriors!

Operation brief: Space Disco comes into town! We'll have several hundreds of beam Executioners, filled with red lazors, yellow lazors, green lazors, purple lazors, any color you like! We'll make a giant Disco Ball of Death and shoot each other for some pretty explosions.

What is this all about? It's just something we were talking about 1 year ago, and I finally decided to put it into live. Beam lasers look really cool, especially when there are a lot of them! So, get your settings on max, overheat your fraps, and be ready for some groovy action!

Location: Poinen, exact location will be provided in fleet
Date and Time: April 17th, Friday, 2000 Evetime

Operation details:

This is an FFA happening. We'll make Purple Fleet for this event. You don't need to bring anything apart from your own pod.

The ships are being fitted right now and will be provided in fleet. We'll have a few hundreds of pre-fitted Executioners. All of them will have beam lasers, MWD, a bit of tank, and 6 different sets of crystals, so you can pick your favorite one or go rainbow! Moreover, each ship will have a NOS (albeit, nos has pretty tight fitting requirements, so not everyone will be able to online it).

  • Do not bring your own ships. Fitted and Armed Executioners will be handed over during the course of the event;
  • After receiving the ship, pilots will need to warp to flagship (Apocalypse) at 30km and start orbiting at 30km;
  • Pilots are not allowed to use any other orbit or perform any other maneuvers. Just hit the "Orbit at 30km" and leave everything else to autopilot;
  • Pilots are free to engage other pilots at will. It's FFA Event, so Reds vs Reds and Blues vs Blues are OK;
  • Flagship will use his Mighty Rainbow to send beams of love to various other pilots. Flagship cannot be aggressed until the culmination of the event (fleet will be informed about this moment);
  • When Flagship is called a primary, the whole fleet can shoot it. And after flagship is taken down, the FFA is continued until last man standing. At this point pilots are free to orbit the wreck using any distance they like up to 50km.

Don't forget to train the following skills - Amarr Frigate, Energy Turrets, and Controlled Bursts.

  • Pilot with most losses;
  • Pilot with most kills;
  • Final blow on flagship KM;
  • Top damage on flagship KM;
  • Last man standing after flagship is gone;

These persons will receive some nice souvenirs from me after event. Most likely in form of some amarr-aligned ships - Navy Slicers and Cruor.

So! Move yourself into Poinen next Friday, get your disco-beam Executioner, turn on your favorite Daft Punk track, and HAVE FUN!

#147659 RvB Fitted Ships Program v2

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 26 March 2015 - 07:09 PM

Back Orders system is now up and running!

Love the fit and would like to get a few in your hangar, but there aren't enough on Contracts? Would like to stock yourself with fast throwaway ships? Want to try something new and expect heavy losses while getting used to the new ship?

We've got you covered!

Open http://prefit.rvb-services.com/using in-game browser and you will be able to put an order for particular fit.

  • You are not required to pay upfront. Order now, pay when you get the private contract assigned to you;
    • (please don't abuse it if you are not willing to pay - RvB Rule #0)
  • You can pick the Delivery Station!
    • Miri decided to start with 3 stations - both HQ stations and Josameto top station, but the list might be expanded;
  • Choose the Amount of ships you'd like to receive!
    • The amount is capped at 100 at the moment to prevent an abuse;
    • Bear in mind that the amount is the "amount of contracts". I.e. if you order 5 of "Atron [5-Pack]", you'll receive 25 Atrons totally;

Have fun! And be prepared for more explosions!

And, as usual, keep me or Miri posted regarding any issues or bugs you encounter.

#147338 RvB Fitted Ships Program v2

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 23 March 2015 - 08:42 AM

Now if they would only sell the Doctrine ships I wouldn't have to spend any money in Jita at all!  ;)

Of course, it's up to Miri since it's all his child etc.

But... when we have Back Orders up and running (Soon™), I foresee that it might be possible to add some "inactive" fits for which there are no ongoing contracts and all that daily work, but those can still be ordered by RvB pilots (with delayed private delivery). OFC, it's all about Miri call ;)

#147229 RvB Fitted Ships Program v2

Posted by Peter Sibiro on 21 March 2015 - 04:14 AM

I am a fan of Fitted Ships Program myself for a long time already. Few years ago Cameron Zero did an amazing job to get this program up and running, keep supplies, logistics etc.

In 2013, I was doing my alternative contracts for a couple of months (with permission from Cameron and Miri), so I know from my own experience how much WORK it requires behind the scenes. I salute Cameron, Miri, and everyone who help this program doing the fitting work, manufacturing jobs, hauling etc.

So, one day I was searching corp contracts for a couple of specific ships and, suddenly, I've got that idea that Eve's API and the integration with in-game browser can do the trick and let folks like me to find necessary things quickly. The next thought I had was about providing cool info about ships and fits, because (we all know) fitted ships look like a mess in the contract window. So, I started the work and when I had some more or less completed idea, showed it to Miri. You know the rest.

As I wrote above, the contracts themselves are just a tip of the iceberg of what Miri does on a daily basis and we'll continue to work together and add new "behind the scenes" features to make his work as a Fitting Master more pleasant and less time consuming. Most likely this will affect the ones who work with Miri for manufacturing and fitting areas.

Regarding the website itself, feel free to bug me if you notice some issue, problem, or have some cool idea how to improve it. Miri already told me that some of you were asking for custom orders. For now it will be like it was before - just drop Miri an evemail and proceed from that. At the moment, I'm more focused on those "inner features" to help Miri running the business, but we'll get back to "client-side" cool additions too. First of them, I'm thinking about "fit import", so you can check in advance whether you have all necessary skills to fly T2 fittings.

All in all, I want to say again "Thank you Cameron and Miri !!!" for the tremendous amount of work you did and keep doing that help people make more explosions. The amount of time I put in this website is nothing compared to what is required to provide literally hundreds of thousand prefitted ships for RvB.

I think we already have at least 2 threads on forums regarding sov changes and that particular dev blog. Both are populated with the ideas re how RvB and/or Ganked can leverage on that to get some fights out there.
