#161627 EvE Moving to F2P... Why this could be great for the game and great for RvB

Posted by Khador Vess on 01 September 2016 - 12:27 PM

Okay, after reading Khador's post I merged it with Lasse's so all comments go in one place. For whatever reason it copied Khador's post title over Lasse's, which is not what I wanted but oh well. So please don't either of you yell at me for deleting your post! I'm just a fallible human trying to do the right thing!

#161614 EvE Moving to F2P... Why this could be great for the game and great for RvB

For those who havent seen the news:

https://community.ev...s-to-eve-online

Read this first, then have a nice cup of your preferred beverage and then come back.... Ready? Ok lets begin.

My initial reaction was something like this. I flipped the table and moonwalked the fuck out of the room because i was so angry... My beloved EvE was dying for realsies. then i took a moments pause and realised how much of a crybaby bitch  i was being and that my initial reaction was way over the top.

EvE has been niche game for ever, its always been that hardcore spreadsheet game that only nerds who get called nerds by other nerds play. Well folks, that's about to change with the introduction of Alpha Clones, no more excuses of 'its too hard and i dont want to pay a monthly sub to learn to play a new game wah wah wah... Alpha clones will be able to take part in everything from mining up to running and gunning in a single race's ships and its all going to be free.... yes that's right, it will cost you nothing, nada, zip zero, zilch, squat. The only thing is that you wont be able to fit higher tier modules (read t2 and probably faction), fly ships bigger than a cruiser (or fly t2 ships) but with racial cruiser 4 you could still be a very effective pilot in a fight.

Skills for each race can be found in the devblog but also on this handy dandy spreadsheet: https://docs.google....AwIU/edit#gid=0

*Just dont join ABA, they're low tier. (Love you really Rixx)

As you can see its quite a nice list of skills for each race, imagine the absolutely massive fights we could get, hundreds of rookies, sorry alpha's and omega's slamming cruiser after cruiser into one another. *Sniff it could be so beautiful . If ever there was a way to make EvE F2P this is the best way to do it, though in all probability plex and injectors are in for a rough ride.

EvE's sub number have been in decline for years now and we're getting to the point where the summer activity lull makes parts of the game like a graveyard, so CCP have made the bold decision to try and boost numbers. Imagine all those old bitter vets able to come back and dip in and out for free, maybe buying some ship skins for their cruisers, buying some new hats, getting a taste for eve again and staying on.

Dont get me wrong, this strategy is a risk, it could still kill eve stone dead because we as players min-max the living fsck out of every little thing and rules lawyer ourselves to the nth degree. We push the things to their very limits and so i'm sure we will find ways to use and abuse this new system. I'm hoping though this will be the CPR that EvE needs desperately and that when i log in in the future i can see 200k, 500k or even 1m players logged and shooting the ever living crap out of one another.

So in summary dont be like Reddit just chill out, relax and think of how many new bro's we'll be able to pull into RvB and teach the glorious way of the sacred teapot. (Filthy pot noodle chomping reds need not apply)

Thats is all.

I never thought i'd have to be writing this particular post and so I find myself struggling to keep my emotions in check, anything i write wont be enough.

For these past nearly 4 years RvB has been a home to me, its been my comfort, my solace, a place for laughter and tears (for departed friends), somewhere i though i'd be until the day the server shut off, unfortunately that was not meant to be and to me what feels worse is that we go out not with a bang, but a whimper.

Thanking all the people who deserve it would take a hell of a long time, in fact i'm sure i'd hit the post word limit before i got to the end, so i'll just say:

To all the command members, regular members, friends, enemies and to those who are no longer with us i say thanks and wish you all the best. Almost all my favorite eve memories are thanks to you guys and all the hard work you have put into making ship after ship explode. Without your hard work and dedication RvB 2.0 would not have lasted as long as it did.

To those who remain i wish you my best and I'll be with you in spirit, I'll keep an alt in RvB to help out where i can. It feels like the end of an era but i truly hope that RvB will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and return to its former glory. To anyone else who is going along to fanfest, I'll be there next year and so we can all gather and raise a beer either to the success or to the memory of RvB.

I don't know what i'm going to do, I may take a break from eve, i may move onto something else... I'm too cut up at the moment to decide

Fly dangerously, fly it like you stole it.

#154253 FREE BPC's

Posted by Khador Vess on 23 August 2015 - 11:51 AM

Yes you heard me free... I'm getting out of the manufacturing business and i have some BPC's i dont want the hassle of unloading via contracts.

https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing

My giveaway is designed to help newbro's and vets get into manufacturing, if i suspect these are being relisted on contracts then you'll be cut off.

There are a few ground rules...

  • Some of these (ME10) BPC's are good to manufacture straight away for a little isk, most of them will benefit from using them for invention
  • Contact me on your RvB toon, random convo's from indy alts me no want.
  • Don't be greedy and ask for everything, take a little, use it, come back and ask for some more.
  • Contracts will be from Jita 4-4
  • You must be a current RvB member to ride the BPC train.

Thanks

.K

#145602 Khador Vess for CSM 10 - Newbies, Bitter Vets, lend me your ears.

Posted by Khador Vess on 25 February 2015 - 01:52 PM

You guys will have seen the RvB recommendedvoting list well here's my personal list with a bit of reasoning...

1) Khador Vess - Ofc. Great guy, never blows his own trumpet.
2) Jayne Fillon - Another Great Dude with the best interests of the NPSI community at heart
3) Sugar Kyle - As hard a worker as the CSM has ever seen and very knowledgable
4) Bam Stroker - I think this is the year that the EvE 'community' needs to lay the foundations for the years to come and Bam is certainly a community dude and a half.
5) Corbexx - another hard working incumbent with a great deal of knowledge about wormholes
6) Steve Ronuken - The 3rd Party Development Candidate of choice... simple.
7) Psianh Auyvander - Psianh sees the merc side of life. Runs Noir Academy.
8) Gorski Car - Ex RvB Dude and Small Gang focus
9) Cagali Cagali - BNI dude with NPE focus, If he didnt already have such broad support from his bloc he'd be further up my list.
10) Xander Phoena - Great communication from this man re what the CSM has been up to which was a core part of my hit list.
11) Tora Bushido - Some of his idea's are a bit fruit loopy but his platform has changed and solidified since the start. He has extensive experience of the other side of HS Wars and the merc side of life.
12) Sion Kumitomo - Would feature higher up on my ballot if i weren't sure he already had a place from the null bloc vote.
13) Manfred Sideous - Would feature higher up on my ballot if i weren't sure he already had a place from the null bloc vote. Very knowledgeable.
14) Endie - Would feature higher up on my ballot if i weren't sure he already had a place from the null bloc vote.

My 2p

Thanks for your support this year guys and remember

He's a tricky little fish for you...

As a high-sec dweller, you can't have failed to noticed the recent increase in suicide ganking in high-sec that has taken place in recent times. In particular the focused nature of it on one particular play-style, even in some cases unashamedly not for financial profit. With that in mind, where do you stand on the following topical issues.

- Do you think there's a "problem"? If not, can you elaborate? If so, should it be addressed and how?

- Do you think play-styles focused on reasons other than financial gain should be supported by CCP?

- Do you think the current increase is the crescendo, or just the beginning? Is there a frequency at which you think CCP will have to do something (assuming you don't already)?

I've been on both sides of the fence on this one... i've been the ganker and the ganked. Whenever i've been ganked in the past it's been usually because i was doing something stupid, though on a few occasions i've been popped just for the hell of it and while its frustrating, i strongly believe that PvP (both consensual and nonconsensual) has a place in this game, its what makes this game pretty much unique...

- Do you think there's a "problem"? If not, can you elaborate? If so, should it be addressed and how?

Not drastically. There are a few issues at the moment that may need addressing for example if you are -5 and below, you can still move with relative impunity through high sec in a frigate or interceptor, there are no real reasons for people to try and raise their sec status once its tanked to -9.9999999, this means that once you are a criminal there is no real penalty (other than losing a cheap ship) to ganking... this is perhaps one thing i would say need further discussion... give some real drawbacks to maintaining a -9.9 sec status, such as for example denying docking rights in high sec

In the grand scheme of things ganking is in a good place right now. I feel there are plenty of defenses against ganking that people are not using fully, EvE is in fact a social game and ganking can be countered by bringing along a friend to web your freighter into warp, scout the gates ahead of you or rep you up to negate the incoming damage.

- Do you think play-styles focused on reasons other than financial gain should be supported by CCP?

By this i take it you mean the 'griefing' game play that some entities undertake, popping empty freighters, farming corps for awoxing etc. In this regard I don't think that CCP should normally directly intervene, its a sandbox after all... where do you ever draw the line? Is ganking an empty freighter griefing, is perma wardeccing a corp griefing, is bumping miners a griefing tactic, is 0.01 isking a griefing tactic... I believe that the only time CCP should intervene is where an in game mechanic is not intuitive or difficult to understand like the in corp aggression mechanics and the changes that CCP and the CSM discussed recently.

- Do you think the current increase is the crescendo, or just the beginning? Is there a frequency at which you think CCP will have to do something (assuming you don't already)?

I think (and this is purely based on anecdotal evidence, observed in the forge) ganking is experiencing a bit of a growth spurt at the moment and  in all honesty its caused by a lull in content elsewhere... there is no big war or other drama at the moment to focus the attention of people and so ganking is perhaps experiencing a renaissance as a result. I don't believe CCP needs to intervene other than to tidy up some loose ends (such as slightly OP gank catalysts and sec status issues as discussed before).

It's my top priority. The next mission CCP add should be a quest for a shrubbery, bonuses conferred by the shrubbery's possession to be agreed later.
