what with all the drinking I forgot to put up this post

Ironically whilst drinking CCP FoxFour Introduced me to a man named Dave, who just so happens to be a rep for EvE voice

For those of you who don't know EvE voice despite the name Is not a product of CCP but In fact was made by a third party company called Vivox and furthermore for those of you who don't know we are the biggest user of EvE voice In the game

Now to the point, he requested some feedback.....of course I did not swarm him with an armada of what's good and what's bad.......not that I could think of many good things off the top of my head, but I did however tell him I'd get the 2 cents from everyone else

So quite simply within the confounds of this thread I would like 1 - your opinion of EvE voice and 2 - what could make It better, once compiled I will write up something and post It here prior to throwing It his way

Love - Combat Mink

My opinion?

It works for me. I don't like the idea of a third party voice program because of the work it takes to get it installed/configured/etc (and, trust me, as someone who ran a ventrilo/mumble server for years, it IS a giant PITA because not everyone has the basic computer knowledge necessary to understand what "download" means, let alone working through step-by-step instructions WITH PICTURES).

I also understand it doesn't work for everyone.

Related to EVE Voice

* Ability to bind to more different hotkeys than currently available
* Voice connection quality indicator
* Voice activation sensitivity slider

I guess I can think of more later

I actually have found Eve Voice to be great and have never understood why people hated it with passion except the thing below. Honestly speaking, it does what it's supposed to do pretty good and given the choice I'd definitely pick Eve Voice rather than download some random 3rd party client.

Don't know how well it does with those null fleets though. Those fleets can get retarded numbers as we all know.

Also yes I've also heard it doesn't actually work for everyone. I have never had any problem with it.

Just the reliability is the only gripe I have with it. It works 99% of the time for me but others struggle sometimes. Occasionally it gets itself in a right state too and you have to log to straighten it out - often related to it lagging a bit but I don't know if that's strictly speaking an issue with Eve voice.

I second this one.  The keys I prefer to map voice coms to are not currently an option.

1. EVE voice is great for being a voice chat integrated into the game. No need for installing and setting up dozens of third party programs, no need for alt-tabbing. However, it needs quite a bit of work.

2. Biggest issue I have with it is the unability to set different volume settings for different speakers. Of course, ideally it would automaticly adjust the volume like some of the voicechats do nowadays, but at least being able to tune this manually would already help greatly.

In addition to that, a bit more stability would be nice. As many of us know, often the voice will glitch, requiring a client restart to reactivate. Getting rid of that would be nice.

Aside from these two problems, I think it's good enough for what it does and I would love to see it improve in the future.

1. Keybinds

2. Changing volume of individual speaker.  Some people have input all the way up while other have it low - and when something is said you get blasted with excuses as to why you should change your volume.

3. More reliable PTT - it doesn't always turn off when key is let go - very random

4. A new window in regards as to who is talking - I personally do not like the fleet window being taking over.  I know it shows in chat channels, but that requires it to be up constantly.

5. Is it possible to even change global incoming eve voice volume in-game?  I know i tried a while back and was unsuccessful.

6. It will glitch occationally - only requires me to turn voice off/on - I have never had to relog to fix it.

Edit: 3rd party voice programs are extremely easy to use unless you are completely computer illiterate.  If you can't figure out a simple VOIP program, you honestly should not play eve.

Did they make the ui? my biggest gripe is with the UI. not clear at all. also, added functionality like giving the boss the power to set priority speakers and mute people both in voice and the fleet chat.

I am not surprised we are the biggest users. Honestly, I would suggest Dave gets a trial account and join some of our larger fleets. He doesn't have to talk or announce his presence, just listen. Let him struggle to hear the giant whispers of the FC playing while his girl sleeps in the room. Let him hear the screechy idiot who hasn't figured out the gain on the Mic. Let him hear the times when 1/2 the can understand the FC while the other half hears only lag and static.

I think that would give him a better idea of the abuse we put his poor baby through. He may take his baby away then, but still, he will hear and gain a very good idea of eve voices beauty and flaws.

That said, can I just say one if the neatest things I have seen with eve voice... Using my PS3 headset to talk to ky friends in eve through eve voice in a shared channel. I find it impressive that eve voice was able to do that with no issues.

I learned to love EVE Voice and I think it is the best voice tool for RvB.

The only thing I have to complain about it is that I am not able to adjust its volume at all. You can either turn it on or off but no matter how you tune your EVE volume in general, the EVE Voice volume is just extremely loud... I do not even need a volume adjustment for each speaker but only in general.

Make the "Join Audio" button for Fleets or Channels actually ON the fleet chat window.

I'm tired of telling people "Press the little cog on the top left of your fleet chat..."

Or "Open your giant E, press 'Social' and then 'Fleet' and right click the microphone..."

It should be so obvious/quick that we no longer need to post pictures of how to join for new players. It needs to be simpler.

Other than that, it works 99% of the time for me.

I find it generally useful and a lot easier than mucking around with mumble or ts (for ganked or other npsi roams etc).

On the plus side:

- good to have a voice system integrated in the game with no need for a second program to download or operate

- good to be able to see in fleet chat who is talking

- good to be able to use it in private convos and other chats as well (only discovered this a couple of months ago, lol)

On the down side:

- more complex than it needs to be to join/explain how to join, especially for new members (agree with Korrey's suggestion above)

- problems with lag, sometimes contributing to dc, or requiring dc and rc to rectify

- I have noticed that other corps with 3rd party comms often have it running all the time, so it provides a constant avenue for socialising, while in RvB it is very rarely used for anything other than fleet. Not sure if this is because of our culture (if you are active and want to chat, get in the bloody fleet already) or because it is not obvious / easy to join it while you are just sitting in corp.

Control: Both issues are mentioned already, allow any key for PTT, and better volume control for others.

Accessibility: Easier joining, checkboxes maybe? (X Fleet X Wing X Squad) Default talk channel is left most, changeable in fleet menu.

- I would also like a second PTT hotkey that goes directly to the FC only. Could be used for scouts, so other people don't hear the information. Perhaps only Squad Commanders would be allowed to use it, so random people aren't hotkeying the FC with useless info.

- Make switching the "Make speaking channel" easier, so when I'm in multiple channels I can switch with a hotkey between them. Maybe use NUMPAD keys 1-9 or something.

Yes need a PTT that works properly. For me only middle mouse button works. Anything else and it either doesn't activate properly, or carries on being activated several seconds after I release it. I only get this problem in EVE Voice, not mumble or TS.

Separate PTT keys to talk to fleet, wing, squad or fleet boss.

Simpler joining options. Should always, always put you into fleet channel and always make this active speaking channel by default. At the moment it's fairly random which channels it even joins, often when I join voice it will only join squad and/or wing by default so I have to manually join fleet.

"Move fleet members to top of list when they speak" or whatever it's called, should be on by default, it is insanely useful. It should also work when people talk in squad/wing. Maybe a different colour icon.

Police siren background noise suppression would be very useful.

First some poking at features:

- There could be an option to separate the "current speakers" list into a separate overlay-y thing (optional!) and leave fleet chat alone because EVE Voice fucks with the name sorting

- Also a "priority speaker" thingy that just mutes everyone when talking (e.g. FC) - STFU to us mindless scrubs. :P

Positive aspects:
- Easy to use (integrated)
- Works :most: of the time
- Sound quality is quite good compared to PS2, for instance
- Very useful for RvB fleets

Negative aspects:
Mostly been said, it tends to have a few issues here and there.

All in all it has even improved over the years, it's more stable now.
Fix it Mink! :D
