Soloing in larger ships typically ends up being a "drag line-o-death" affair. Thus, you need to be fast and do a lot of damage so that you kill stuff before you get tackled and they call others in.
Last night was a good example of this. I was out in a frig hunting and ran across a light missile Caracal, I swapped to a Stabber that I knew would be a decent match for the Caracal and went back to engage. The Caracal pilot ran and we danced around Liek for a bit until I landed pretty close and was able to grab tackle. We had a good fight going on that was going to be close, but I was slightly ahead in the damage dealing. Then another Caracal landed. I waited a few seconds too late to light my MWD to burn away and got tackled and webbed by the second Caracal. A match for 1, I was not a match for 2. Dead Stabber.
I made two fatal errors. First, engaging a lone Cruiser is always holds the possibility of others being handy (you might also add that I was doing this in enemy territory), second, I should have immediately overheated my MWD and burned toward somethign when the 2nd Caracal landed (I was probably 2 seconds late in this decision and that was enough).
Its really easy to get discoraged in solo play, especially in a time like now when solo pilots are at an all time low in RvB it seems. I still believe that it is far better than trying to find solo fights in low and null, but times are tough for us right now.
I am trying to solo more in cruiser size ships, but it is a much more highly dangerous activity than in a frigate. Once tackled it is almost impossible to burn out of tackle range with the mass of a larger ship. Applying damage to a light fast ship (unless you are fit to kill small stuff - which, TBH, I really never am in a Cruiser as I dont see the sport in frigate only ganking, but that is me). Thus, you need to either be able to outrun your prey while still keeping a long point on it (hint, people are lemmings and will follow you to their death), or you need to be able to have enough tank to hold out on a gate kill a few things and then jump through when others have aggroed and get out with a few kills. Get tackled off gate in a cruiser by frigates or dessies and you can bet others are quickly on their way.
There are a few who do this well and I am working on getting them to provide us with some solo tutorials/seminars soon.
Till then, keep it up. If I am on when you are we can go do some solo training as well.

If you're interested in solo and would like some pointers, especially regarding splitting gangs and tactical warps, you should check out the "eve is easy" (http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=0 ) video tutorials made by garmon and friends. They're all pretty good, but the ones linked below are particularly nice introductions, since they show and explain various ways of splitting hostile gangs to effectively turn an unmanageable 1vN situation into a more winnable series of smaller engagements.

I would recomment giving Dessys another try they dont need to be expensive to be effective.
Here is an example of 2 thrasher fits.

You should probably listen & watch what Tsubutai noted. He is the second Caracal that warped in and trashed my Stabber last night (Damn you, sir! I was winning that fight!).
He also looks to have some Tusker background, which typically says something (which is why I did not engage your 1600 plate, Heavy Electron Vexor on gate when I came back - the odds were not in my favor )
I will be watching both of those vids.

You're all still in my mind I thought I'd give an update on my post RvB career. On leaving Red Fed I and a few other RVBers took up the pirate career out in lowsec. First off solo pvp in lowsec I found to be a lot harder than in RvB, mainly because fights were not easy to bait. The worse my sec status became the more this became true.
Eventually though I got sufficient outnumbered kills and kills v higher class ships to gain entry into The Tuskers which is where I am now.
A lowsec pvp blog will follow.
